The Sahuarita Stake Center - Zone Meeting

We had a zone meeting today with the elders and sisters at this Sahuarita Stake Center.
This building has interesting architecture with a strong Spanish influence.
Most of the streets here in Tucson have Spanish names.
Three of the nine wards in our stake are Spanish speaking wards so we have a lot of missionaries on Spanish speaking missions within our mission.

The Madera Ward

This is the chapel for the Madera Ward, our first assignment here in Tucson.  It is located in Green Valley, which is 20 miles south of Tucson.  We are in a very dry desert climate with only a few trees and cactus plants that add a touch of green to this area.

Bishop Nay and his wife, Kathryn, outside the church with us today.
We attended the baptism of an 8 year old girl.

The weather has been very pleasant this week with temperatures in the low 80's.
A great welcome to Arizona!

The Beginning of our Journey

This is the place.... where we start our one year mission serving in Tucson.
Bill and I are happy to be welcomed into our new home after a long drive from Utah to Arizona... and after an inspiring week spent in the Mission Training Center in Provo.

Bill enjoyed talking to Brother Perkins, the man in charge of housing for the missionaries.  We're grateful for his work in finding us a nice place to live!

Here we are checking in with the mission secretary and her husband, who takes care of the vehicles for the missionaries.
